Search Committee

The Search committee is happy to announce that we’ve elected our Chairs and assigned roles for the initial phase of the search process.

Committee members are Jonatan Ascarruz-Asencios, Veronica Griffith, Kelly Mankin, LeeAnn Morgan, Deborah Shepherd, Joey Spano and Nicole Stewart. The committee has elected Kelly and Joey to serve as co-chairs and has been working with the Transition minister from the Bishops office to define roles and responsibilities and putting plans in place to effectively execute the search process.

This dedicated Search Committee Webpage will be used to communicate important messages related to the search process and when appropriate, how each and every parishioner can support our efforts.   We cannot be successful without the active participation of each of you!

With the Holy Spirit to guide us, we’re confident that the right candidate will be chosen to lead St. John’s in what God is calling us to do next.

If you have questions or need more information, please reach out to Kelly or Joey. We'll continue to provide regular updates as we navigate this important journey together.

Community Conversations

The Search Committee is excited to invite you to participate in our “Community Conversation” meetings!

In these small group meetings, you will be asked to share your opinion on who we are, what the Holy Spirit is calling us to do, and the skills and abilities we seek in our next Rector.

Our goal here is to gain clarity about our history, mission, vision, and future goals. This will become the foundation for writing our Parish profile, which in turn allows us to develop a job posting that reflects the needs and desires of our congregation.

The input of every parishioner is critical to developing a parish profile that truly reflects the culture of St. John's. So, we urge you to participate and stress to your fellow parishioners the importance of their involvement in these Community Conversations.

We will be holding these meetings in person and via Zoom. Grap a friend and sign up here.

Members of the search committee will also be available after each service to assist you in signing up.

We are looking for 200 participants to achieve our participation goal. Once these meetings are completed, the committee will move on to writing our Parish Profile.

If you have any questions, please reach out to a Kelly Mankin (klmankin@comcast.net) or Joey Spano (jmspano74@gamil.com).  Thank You!

Search Committee FAQ

Issue 2 August 3rd, 2025

Q: How was the search committee selected?

A: The Vestry notified the congregation in March that nominations were open for the search committee. Once those nominations closed, the Vestry carefully reviewed the nominations and selected the final candidates, looking to achieve diversity of background and experience as well as their ability to dedicate the time and talent necessary.

Q: Who are the members and what are their qualifications?

A: The Search committee members are Jonatan Ascarruz-Asencios, Veronica Griffith, Kelly Mankin, LeeAnn Morgan, Deborah Shepherd, Joey Spano, and Nicole Stewart. A brief bio for each member and their roles and responsibilities on the committee can be found here or on the bulletin board outside the Library

Q: What happens next? How soon will we be calling a new Rector?

A: The search process consists of a series of steps designed to engage the congregation to prayerfully discern who we are, where we are going and what we are looking for in our next Rector. It is a deliberately slow process that may take 12-18 months to complete. The search committee is guided in part by the transition minister from the diocese. We trust that God is at work with this process

Q: What group plays what role in the search process?

A: There are three groups that play a role in the search process. The Vestry, Search Committee and the Bishop’s office. In order for the process to work effectively there must be clear roles and responsibilities for each.

The Vestry is responsible for working with the interim rector to lead the day-to-day work of the church and is not directly involved in the search process.

The Search Committee is responsible for conducting a self-assessment and developing written materials that clearly express who we are as a congregation and

what we seek in our next Rector. They are also responsible for the candidate search and interview process that results in the discernment of a finalist to present to the Vestry.

The Bishop’s office supports the work of the search committee by posting the position and screening candidates to ensure they are qualified to apply

Q: How will the congregation have input into the process?

A: The congregation will play a key role in the development of our parish profile outlining our history, mission, vision and future goals. A series of “community conversations” meetings will take place from July to September (or longer depending on signups) to gain input from the congregation. Our goal is to have 100% participation in these meetings which will consist of about 10 people each. Sign up information can be found under the “community conversation” tab on this website, on the bulletin board outside the library

Q: Whom can I contact if I have questions or concerns?

A: For questions related to the search process, you may contact anyone of the committee members. Their contact information can be found under the “committee members” tab on the website or on the bulletin board outside the Library. Search committee members will also be identified by their special Yellow nametags with purple lanyards during both services.

For questions on the day-to-day operations of the parish, you can contact the interim Rector Mary Jane Peck at mpeck@stjohnsro.org or any of the Vestry members. Their contact information can be found on this website under the “about / Vestry” tab
