CHILDREN & FAMILIES
Children are at the heart of everything we do at St. John’s. They are celebrated for who they are, and nurtured to become compassionate, empathetic followers of Jesus.
Sunday School
During the 10:15am service, children ages 4 through 5th grade are invited to explore their faith through stories, discussion, and hands-on activities. This time helps them build religious language, deepen their spiritual understanding, and engage in wonder-filled play. We meet every Sunday (except holidays and summer), and children join their families in the service during the Peace, just before communion.

Youth Group
Youth Group, for 6th through 12th graders, is a welcoming space where everyone’s questions, doubts, and ideas are valued. We come together to play games, discuss faith and the Bible, talk about current events, and explore topics important to the youth. We also enjoy community service projects and fun activities like lock-ins, laser tag, or bowling. During this time of transition, we meet twice a month following communion. Youth will be the first to receive communion and then head up to the third floor for lessons and activities. We also meet with other nearby Episcopal churches once a month for an evening event.

Communion & Baptism
All families are welcome at St. Johns regardless of race, gender, creed, class or sexuality. All who attend St. Johns, including children, are welcome to receive communion during service. We do offer baptism for those interested in themselves or their children becoming baptized. We are here to support all our families and to engage your children with our church.

Please contact the church office at office@stjohnro.org OR call 248-546-1255
for more information regarding baptism

Additional Resources for Families
While these opportunities and resources are available, they are entirely optional. Children, with all their noises and wiggles, are always welcome to join us in the Sanctuary during our services!
Kid's Room
Located in the Narthex, this space offers children activities like coloring, busy bags, and fidget toys to bring into the Sanctuary during the service.
Soft Space
A cozy area in the front of the Sanctuary (on the right) has soft toys, books, and puzzles for children under three to enjoy during the service. Grown-ups are asked to accompany their children here.
Respite Room
Located across from the Library and next to the Community Room, this room offers a large window overlooking the Sanctuary. It’s a peaceful space with rocking chairs, a changing table, a crib, books, and toys for grown-ups to enjoy with their children.
